Why This Role Matters – The Portfolio Architect Mission The Portfolio Architect serves as the chief technical steward for a suite of mission‑critical applications that automate crew scheduling, communication, compliance, and operational workflows. You will drive end‑to‑end design decisions, ensure architectural cohesion across on‑premises and cloud environments, and translate business challenges into elegant, scalable solutions. Your expertise will directly impact Delta’s ability to deliver reliable, secure, and future‑ready services to the thousands of crew members who keep the airline moving. Key Responsibilities Architectural Ownership: Define, document, and champion the technical vision for the Crew IT portfolio, balancing cloud‑native, on‑premises, and hybrid patterns. Solution Design: Design integrated applications that automate complex business processes, leveraging microservices, APIs, and event‑driven architectures. Technology Evaluation & Adoption: Stay ahead of emerging trends (e.g., serverless, AI‑enhanced automation) and recommend strategic investments that accelerate innovation. Full‑Lifecycle Oversight: Guide each phase of the software development lifecycle—from requirements gathering and proof‑of‑concept to production rollout and continuous improvement. Standards & Governance: Establish and enforce architectural standards, design patterns, security baselines, and operational best practices across the portfolio. Collaboration & Communication: Partner closely with product owners, business analysts, engineering leads, and external vendors to align technical solutions with business objectives. Mentorship & Talent Development: Coach senior engineers and emerging talent on architectural principles, DevSecOps practices, and modern development methodologies. Incident Management & Documentation: Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues, ensuring clear documentation, post‑mortem analysis, and proactive remediation. Specialization Areas: Provide deep expertise in App/Integration, DevSecOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, and Security within the Crew IT ecosystem. Essential Qualifications – What You Bring to the Table Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field. Professional Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in software architecture or senior engineering roles at enterprise scale, preferably within highly regulated, high‑availability environments. Technical Mastery: Proven expertise designing and delivering enterprise‑grade solutions using: Cloud‑native development with Spring/Spring Boot, Angular, and serverless frameworks. Container orchestration (AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service, ROSA) and related CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Tekton). Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform) and automated provisioning. RESTful API design, GraphQL, and event‑driven messaging (Kafka, SNS/SQS). Oracle 19c+ database architecture, performance tuning, and migration strategies. VersionOne, Git, CI/CD, Test‑Driven Development (TDD), and DevOps best practices. Application security standards (OWASP, 12‑factor app principles) and secure coding.
