Old Dominion Freight Line is a leading transportation solutions provider seeking a Java Developer I to assist in designing, testing, and implementing programming applications. The role involves working with middleware technologies, databases, and supporting production systems to ensure quality service for customers. Responsibilities β’ Assist in implementation planning, fit analysis, configuration, testing, rollout, and post implementation support of software applications β’ Elicit, analyze, validate, specify, verify, and manage the needs of project stakeholders including customers and end users β’ Analyze, review, and alter programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt new requirements β’ Coordinate resolution of issues and defects discovered during testing β’ Gather business requirements and define detailed specifications β’ Assist in the development and debugging of software using Java/J2EE β’ Participate in the development of software using web presentation technologies such as AJAX, JSON, JavaScript, CSS and HTMLS β’ Work with Business Analysts to design and deploy database schemas and specify all attributes of database tables including primary keys, foreign keys, identities, constraints, default values, indexes, and triggers β’ Provide on call support for production systems to ensure on-time, quality service can be provided to customers β’ Assist with database application development using SQL and JDBC β’ Process documentation to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements β’ Work with more experienced developers to develop skills Skills β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and experience β’ 1+ year educational and or work experience with web applications and hosting environments β’ Understanding of software development methodologies and modern best practices β’ Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies (Scrum, XP, Kanban, etc.) β’ Familiarity with JSP/Servlet container frameworks, Apache, Tomcat, JSP, JSF, Hibernate, REST, SOAP, Web Services, Web Services Security, and Test-Driven Development with JUnit or equivalent tool β’ Experience with Eclipse or equivalent modern IDE β’ Experience with Subversion or equivalent Source Control Management solution β’ Experience developing web applications and user interfaces with Java technologies such as JDBC, JSP, JSF, and servlets β’ Ability to multitask and work as a team player β’ Strong problem-solving skills and self-motivated β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills Benefits β’ Great Health Benefits including a Zero premium medical plan for employee only coverage β’ Vision & Dental β’ Short Term & Long Term Disability β’ Flex Spending Accounts β’ 401k Retirement plan with company match and additional company annual discretionary match opportunity β’ Life Insurance β’ Wellness Program β’ 12 Days Paid Time Off β’ 9 Paid Holidays including a birthday holiday β’ Tuition Reimbursement for Drivers and Technicians β’ Training and growth opportunities to build a career β’ We prioritize our OD family of employees β’ Ability to advance through our promote from within philosophy β’ National Career Opportunities Available at our 260+ service centers Company Overview β’ ODFL is a leading, less-than-truckload, union-free company providing premium service to all its customers.
