We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented HIM Surgery/Observation Coder to join our team. At NorthBay, you will play a crucial role in accurately translating medical procedures and diagnoses into ICD 10, CPT and HCPCS codes in an accurate and timely manner for surgery and observation charges in the hospital and ASC settings. Our ideal candidate is a dedicated, knowledgeable individual with a strong understanding of clinical content, medical terminology, coding guidelines, regulations, and proficiency in utilizing an EHR/encoder system. Focus on outpatient surgery including Interventional Radiology procedures. Responsible for accurately adding facility charges and communicating with clinical department for accurate code/charge assignment. Abstracts demographic and physician data to meet both internal and regulatory requirements for reporting utilizing the hospital's abstracting system. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD, CMS, NCD/LCD guidelines, HCAI, and NorthBay Health coding guidelines.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. College coursework a plus.

Certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC).

    Experience:
  • 3 years continuous ICD10 /CPT coding and abstracting experience in an acute care setting within the last 5 years.
  • Leadership skills/training experience a plus
  • Experience with electronic health records/encoder systems required.
    Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease process, reimbursement methodologies (DRGs, HCCs, APCs), and the conventions, rules and guidelines for current coding classification (ICD10-CM, CPT and HCPCS).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the clinical content of a health record.
  • Microsoft Office: Email, Word, Excel.
  • Ability and desire to hit metrics upon training (idle time is also monitored on this hourly paid position).
  • Technically savvy (ability to learn software and troubleshoot equipment as needed).
  • Must have a private, distraction-free area in your home for working (HIPAA reasons).
  • Web-cam training will be used frequently for team engagement.

Compensation: $50 to $61 per hour based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
