Job Description
Established in California, IvyBoost is an education center that provides premium college admissions counseling for junior high and high school students (7-12th grade) and for college students. With a methodology focused on the development of each student's talents and good traits, IvyBoost offers programs designed to help our students stand out from the competition.
We are looking for current PhD-level college faculty members, especially in STEM/CS, to guide high school students on designing, developing, and completing independent passion projects that dive into their academic interests.
- Responsibilities
- Guide 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students on developing original and meaningful passion projects over several years of their high school career
- Serve as an intellectual mentor in research design, critical thinking, and exploring the studentās authentic interests
- Help students develop an action plan for projects, costs/budget, resources, and the outcomes
- Hold online meetings on a flexible but structured schedule for all project stages, from the beginning of brainstorming the research interest to completion of the projects
- Complete and record notes on all meetings and studentsā progress with the online portal system for studentsā profiles
- Offer detailed and timely feedback on drafts and progress of studentsā work on the passion projects
- Support students to the full completion of a tangible result and outcomes of the project, from research papers, a website, a public presentation, etc.
- Communicate with studentsā IvyBoost counselor and studentsā parents as necessary on passion project status
- Keep students accountable and on task
- Qualification
- PhD in an academic field from a highly selective college in the U.S.
- Area of study related to neural computing, neuroscience, AI/Computer Science, or Computing Algorithm highly preferred
- A current research or teaching faculty member of a selective US College
- Strong publication and research background required
- At least 3+ yearsā experience in mentoring students on research and independent projects
- Good work ethics and close communication with IvyBoostās office
Pay: From $60.00 per hour
