Department: ICE | Periop | REUSABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT (RME) Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The instrument tech will be responsible for decontamination, assembling and inspecting, packaging, testing, and sterilizing instruments and/or sets. Maintain records of loads and items being removed from the department for processing, transport loads to and from SSD, and prepare proper storage for equipment. Performs routine testing, including biological tests for steam autoclaves, Sterrad, and System 1E. Assist Operating Room (OR) staff with needed supplies and equipment. This position will work in the Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) department. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Additional Information: Responsibilities: Disassembles surgical instruments and medical materials. Cleans instruments manually and/or using specialized machines to ensure all bioburden is removed. Assembles instrument sets after cleaning. Inspects instruments and trays for completeness, function, and proper condition. Packages and wraps instrument sets according to sterile processing standards. Uses sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, Sterrad, System 1E). Performs routine tests including biological/diagnostic checks to confirm proper sterilization. Records and interprets test results accurately. Loads and transports prepared instrument sets to/from Central Sterile Supply (CSS). Ensures proper and organized storage of instruments and equipment. Assists OR personnel in locating needed supplies and instruments. Fulfills urgent requests and maintain timely supply flow to support surgeries. Maintains accurate records of instrument loads and processing. Communicates professionally, especially during high-pressure or urgent situations involving OR needs. Reports to and work under the direction of the Sterile Processing Supervisor. May perform other duties as assigned.
