Job Description
We are looking for an experienced professional to proofread and copy-edit a higher-education textbook on Data Analytics.
The book is Introduction to Data Analytics - Data Analytics and Decision-Making: A Playbook for Problem-Solving. It is thorough and completed. The manuscript is 18 chapters organized into four progressive phases, plus a glossary and index. It includes academic text, "Lab Exercise" callout boxes, chapter reviews, and various charts/figures.
Scope of Work:
Your job is strictly to proofread and copy-edit the text. A thorough review of the manuscript is required to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors. You must ensure consistency in tone, capitalization, and formatting across all 18 chapters.
STRICT TECHNICAL & WORKFLOW REQUIREMENTS:
To ensure a smooth transition to the layout phase later, you must adhere to the following rules:
Microsoft Word Only: You must complete 100% of this project using Microsoft Word. (No Google Docs, Apple Pages, or PDF editors).
Mandatory Track Changes: You must have Wordβs "Track Changes" turned on for every single edit, addition, or deletion you make.
Do NOT Touch Graphics: The manuscript contains charts, graphs, and images. Do not move, resize, format, or delete any graphics. If you spot a typo inside an image, simply leave a Word Comment next to it.
Required Deliverables: At the end of the contract, you must deliver TWO separate Word files:
File 1 (The Tracked Version): A document showing all of your tracked changes and comments so I can review your edits.
File 2 (The Clean Version): A final document with all changes "Accepted" and comments removed. This clean file is what I will hand off to my layout designer.
Ideal Candidate:
You'll need to be comfortable with business/analytics terminology, have experience proofreading textbooks or academic work, and have a high attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistency across a long document (e.g., using a style sheet).
The Good News: The text has already been manually reviewed as well as screened using writing-assistant tools, so the manuscript starts with a strong baseline. What's needed is the professional eye and independent review to pick up the remaining small items that automated tools overlook.
