Job Purpose
The Head of Legal Tech Enablement leads the team of legal engineers, document automation specialists and eDiscovery experts within Innovation & Intelligence, driving the strategic direction and implementation of legal tech initiatives across Dentons Europe. This role is critical to transforming legal service delivery through technology-enabled innovation, automation, and process optimisation, delivering measurable value to clients and the firm.
The role encompasses responsibility for the broader legal engineering team, including direct management of Senior Legal Engineers. The Head of Legal Tech Enablement collaborates with firm leadership, practice groups, and business services to identify technology-driven innovation opportunities.
Key activities include defining legal technology strategy, overseeing automation solutions, legal process re-engineering, tool development and deployment, vendor management (with day-to-day vendor coordination delegated to Senior Legal Engineers and Legal Engineers), stakeholder management, and budget oversight.

Reports and team scope
The Head of Legal Tech Enablement is expected to have approximately 2 direct reports (Senior Legal Engineers) and will be indirectly responsible for approximately 5 team members in total (2 Senior Legal Engineers, 2 Legal Engineers, 1 Junior Legal Engineer). The team may be distributed across multiple Dentons offices.
Responsibilities
- Strategy and Planning
- Define and execute legal technology strategy and roadmap aligned with firm objectives
- Identify strategic opportunities for technology adoption, automation, and process innovation across practice areas
- Lead business case development and analysis for technology investments
- Establish and track KPIs for legal engineering initiatives
- Drive thought leadership and represent the firm at external legal technology forums and industry events
- Monitor legal tech market trends and emerging technologies, advising leadership on strategic implications
- Execution and Core Delivery
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of legal technology solutions including automation tools, workflows, and applications
- Lead complex, high-value legal engineering projects from inception through delivery
- Ensure seamless integration of legal technology solutions with existing firm systems and infrastructure
- Direct vendor evaluation, selection, and relationship management for legal technology platforms
- Champion process re-engineering initiatives to optimise legal service delivery
- Maintain hands-on involvement in critical projects requiring senior technical expertise
- People Management
- Build, lead, and develop the Legal Tech Enablement team
- Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews for direct reports
- Allocate resources effectively across projects and priorities
- Recruit top talent and build capabilities within the team
- Mentor Senior Legal Engineers in technical leadership and project management
- Cross-functional Coordination and Communication
- Partner with practice group leaders to understand needs and co-create technology solutions
- Collaborate with lawyers across all countries and practice groups, Technology, Clients & Markets, and other business services functions
- Present to Innovation & Intelligence leadership on legal engineering initiatives and outcomes
- Act as primary point of contact for senior stakeholders on legal technology matters
- Facilitate change management and user adoption across the organisation
- Manage client-facing aspects of legal technology demonstrations and implementations
- Quality and Compliance
- Establish and enforce quality standards, methodologies, and governance frameworks for legal engineering work
- Maintain documentation standards and knowledge repositories
- Ensure ethical use of AI and emerging technologies in legal applications
- Coaching and Professional Development
- Develop learning pathways and competency frameworks for the team
- Provide coaching and mentorship to Senior Legal Engineers and support their career progression
- Create opportunities for team members to develop new skills and take on stretch assignments
- Promote knowledge sharing and best practice dissemination within the team and across the firm
