Welter Law Firm, P.C. (www.welterlaw.com) is an AV-rated management-side employment law and litigation firm headquartered in Virginia. The firm advises employers on compliance with federal, state and local laws and defends employers in court and administrative proceedings. The firm is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal to assist with its national employment law and litigation practice. Experience with litigation is required.
The paralegal will be responsible for supporting attorneys during all phases of the litigation and administrative claim process, including the use of technology to maintain files for attorney use. The candidate must have the ability to learn quickly and apply principles of technology to new software and have an excellent attention to detail. Candidate must have the ability to handle multiple case load with competing and aggressive deadlines, under minimal supervision, be able to set own priorities and be self-motivated. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
The ideal candidate will have a four-year degree or equivalent and at least 10+ years of relevant work experience in a professional environment or law firm which includes progressive responsibility. Paralegal Certificate or training is desirable but not required.
Candidates must have high level of proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, E-Discovery (such as Logickull or Relativity), Electronic Docketing Applications (such as Compulaw), PACER and ECF Electronic Filing, state court e-filing, LEXIS and other internet research tools. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have an understanding of the discovery process relative to ESI collection, processing and management. Prior experience with Compulaw docketing software is highly preferred.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and duties.
- PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use of firm technology to organize, index, file and oversee maintenance of all file documents.
- Track outgoing and incoming requests for information from clients and update document indexes.
- Draft shell pleadings, routine correspondence, discovery documents, position statements and cover letters. Prepare notices of appearance and requests for extension. Prepare litigation hold notices.
- Organize documents and coordinate document productions: Conduct the Bates-stamping, redaction, duplication and indexing of documents. Work on electronic productions.
- Under the guidance of an attorney, categorize documents by subject matter, prepare a chronology of facts, create production charts and annotate documents.
- Maintain internal case databases.
- Prepare witness materials for case preparation: Organize interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for attorney review, deposition preparation and case preparation.
- Motion practice: Pull relevant documents, proofread papers, create tables of contents and authorities, organize exhibits and create document indices in the preparation of motion filing.
- Electronic case filing of pleadings and motions in state and federal court.
- Oversee the progress of documents through litigation support departments, order transcripts from reporting services and fulfill requests from outside counsel and others.
- Initiate and maintain docketing within Firmโs CompuLaw system and monitor litigation dockets and calendars.
Prior to 2020, the firm moved to a โvirtual officeโ model, where attorneys and staff tele-commute and work remotely via a secure VPN. Firm resources are available on a remote server, accessible anywhere with a computer or laptop with high-speed internet. As a virtual law firm, we value responsiveness and that communicate within the firm primarily by email, instant messenger, and audio/video calls.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
