Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Lantana Consulting Group is a leader in health-information exchange, dedicated to improving public health and quality of care. The Data Scientist I – Applied AI role involves using analytic and visualization techniques to support data-informed decision-making and building AI-powered applications to solve real-world problems in public health.
Responsibilities
- Leverage skills and technologies across a range of computing platforms, languages, and techniques to solve business problems and optimize processes
- Prototype, build, and maintain AI-powered tools and workflows using existing models (such as LLMs and embeddings) in Python with APIs, structured data formats, etc
- Iterate on prompts, workflows, and system behavior based on testing and feedback, and support subsequent deployment and operation
- Remain current with emerging data-science tools, techniques, and best practices, including developments in AI/machine learning
- Support the access, combination, and analysis of large, complex datasets from various sources; manipulate, clean, and wrangle datasets under guidance from senior staff
- Contribute to the quality, integrity, and security of data
- Create visualizations and conduct analyses using statistical techniques and machine learning to derive insights from the data and drive actionable reporting
- Present findings and insights to diverse audiences; tailor communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders with support from senior team members
- Work independently on most tasks and seek guidance for more complex or specialized responsibilities
- Communicate and present results effectively to clients, management, and staff
- Analyze and understand client and business needs; translate them into formal requirements
Skills
- Associate's degree and at least three (3) years of relevant experience in data science, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field; or bachelor's degree and at least one (1) year of relevant experience
- Proficiency in Python
- Familiarity with analytic software (such as R or Databricks), Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), and big-data technologies (such as Spark)
- Basic Cloud literacy (including an understanding of containers, serverless, etc.) and proficiency using APIs and SDKs (such as OpenAI, Azure, and AWS)
- Familiarity with AI concepts relevant to working with data and their applications (such as RAG, LangChain/LangGraph, and Vector DBs)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on general tasks within the job function
- Ability to apply a variety of data-analytics approaches
- If required by the project, ability to successfully complete a Level 5 Position of Public Trust background investigation. This includes meeting all eligibility criteria and maintaining the required clearance throughout employment
- Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of relevant experience; or master's degree and three (3) years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of and/or experience with large-dataset analysis for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or other public-health entity
