Job Description

J.Crew Factory is a well-established clothing company known for its classic styles and commitment to quality. The Assistant Designer will assist in the development of seasonal concepts and collaborate with cross-functional partners to support the product lifecycle from concept to final sample.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of seasonal concepts, color stories, fabric, trim, and graphic direction
  • Support the team with trend and market research, including seasonal color, material, silhouette, and styling inspiration
  • Create and update professional presentation boards, including CAD sketches, illustrations, and fabric/trim swatches
  • Prepare visual materials for internal meetings and milestone presentations
  • Maintain up-to-date tech packs, CADs, and linesheets in PLM and shared documents
  • Help track and organize sample status, raw materials, and product development details
  • Collaborate with Production to support design integrity through the development and bulk process
  • Assist with lab dip approvals, fabric submits, and print strike-offs, providing feedback as needed
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners including Merchandising, Technical Design, and Production to ensure deadlines are met
  • Participate in fittings and team reviews to support the product lifecycle from concept to final sample
  • Help maintain the sample closet, raw materials library, and seasonal archives in an organized, accessible manner

Skills

  • 0–2 years of design experience, internship experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Fashion Design, or a related field
  • Strong illustration and technical sketching ability (flat and fashion)
  • Excellent color sense, trend awareness, and an eye for detail
  • Demonstrated creative ability and a strong portfolio showcasing design and CAD work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; knowledge of PLM, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced design environment
  • Previous experience in graphic design or knowledge of graphics development is a plus
