The Financial Analyst role involves preparing journal entries, performing balance sheet account analyses, and supporting the month-end close process in accordance with IFRS 17 guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and record a wide range of journal entries, including expense accruals, transactions related to specialized insurance programs not automated through the system, owned broker commission accounting, and entries required for equity accounting
- Support corporate accounting month-end activities, including processing IBNR journals and late adjustments
- Prepare Balance sheet reconciliations and respond to internal and external audit inquiries
- Maintain accurate and timely journal entries and financial adjustments throughout the close cycle
- Ensure all monthly close deliverables are completed with a high degree of accuracy and within established deadlines
- Produce clear, consistent reconciliation documentation in alignment with accounting and balance sheet reconciliation policies
- Assist the Manager, Corporate Accounting, with all tasks related to month‑end close and subsequent balance sheet reconciliations
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration
- 1–2 years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience
- Experience with Oracle Fusion or another ERP general ledger system
- Strong understanding of accounting operations and balance sheet reconciliations
- Proven ability to improve processes while meeting tight deadlines
- Solid technical accounting skills, including working knowledge of IFRS 17
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- High attention to detail and strong ownership of results
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and leaders
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, particularly when working with complex accounting concepts and issues
- Actively pursuing a CPA designation
- Knowledge of the P&C insurance industry
- Familiarity with SmartView and reconciliation tools
