Description

Performs advanced clinical data abstraction in oncology registries supporting state and national oncology requirements, research, and performance improvement. This role requires deep knowledge of cancer registries, complex medical patterns, and oncology verification standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates expert judgment, precision in coding and abstraction, and the ability to work independently in a remote office environment.

    Responsibilities
  • Identify, analyze, and abstract comprehensive oncology patient data from multiple clinical and administrative sources, including EHRs, operative reports, EMS documentation, and ancillary systems.
  • Compiles, organizes, codes, and enters detailed care data into the oncology registry database.
  • Maintains compliance with NCRA and other applicable guidelines to ensure the integrity and quality of national cancer data.
  • Stays current with registry requirements through continuing education and professional engagement.
  • Apply advanced clinical knowledge to abstract complex cases, i.e., rare cancer types, multiple primary tumors, complicated treatment regimens, and research-eligible cases.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, including data validation, audits, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Collaborate with oncology program leadership, performance improvement teams, and clinical staff to clarify documentation and support oncology program goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of oncology care, registry standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure continued compliance with Oncology Center expectations.
    Qualifications
  • Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in oncology registries, 2+ years preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of oncology registry processes, coding, and registry rules, and manuals, i.e., SEER, AJCC, etc…
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong clinical documentation interpretation ability.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Current on all required oncology registry and coding education.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems, registry software, and team collaboration tools.
  • Enhanced analytical and problem-solving abilities required.
  • Must be located in the United States.
