Job Description

Title:
Lead Writing Specialist (Boutique Educational Consulting)

Commitment:
Part-time (20 hours/week)

Pay:
$40–$45/hr + Commission & Higher Mentoring Rates The Opportunity:

Are you a gifted writer who understands the "science" behind a winning college essay? We are looking for a Lead Writing Specialist to help scale our writing department. This isn't just a remote editing gig; it’s a chance to own the editorial process, train mentors, and build a brand voice on platforms like Reddit and Substack.

This role is perfect for a high-performing consultant ready to step into a leadership and operations capacity without losing the "boots on the ground" experience of mentoring students.

    What the Role Looks Like:
  • Department Flow:
  • You’ll be the controller for our writing materials—organizing records and streamlining our internal guides so everything runs like clockwork.
  • Quality Control:
  • You’ll set the schedule and perform QC checks on student essays, ensuring every draft meets our high standards before it hits the submit button.
  • Mentor Coaching:
  • You’ll lead training sessions for our newer mentors, sharing your expertise on how to help students find their unique hook.
  • Creative Content:
  • You’ll participate in our community engagement, writing sharp, insightful content for Substack and participating in admissions discussions on Reddit.
  • Direct Mentoring:
  • You’ll maintain a small, elite cohort of your own students (compensated at a higher rate).
    What We’re Looking For:
  • Writing Chops:
  • First and foremost, you are a phenomenal writer and editor. You know how to take a "safe" essay and make it unforgettable.
  • The "Consultant" Background:
  • You have 1–3 years of experience in the college admissions space. You understand the current landscape and what makes an AO stop and pay attention.
  • Organizational Zen:
  • You actually enjoy setting up systems and making sure deadlines are met.
  • Voice:
  • You’re comfortable engaging with the public and can write in a way that is both authoritative and approachable.
    Application Requirements
  • Please submit your resume along with a redacted draft of your favorite personal statement you’ve advised on. We want to see how you helped a student find their voice.
