About Sepsis Alliance Sepsis Alliance, the first and leading sepsis organization in the U.S., seeks to save lives and reduce suffering by improving sepsis awareness and care. More than 1.7 million people are diagnosed with sepsis each year in the U.S. with more than 350,000 adults dying and over 50% of survivors experiencing post-sepsis syndrome and other lingering effects, including amputations. At Sepsis Alliance's founding in 2003, only 19% of U.S. adults were aware of the term βsepsis.β After over ten years of educational efforts for the general public and healthcare professionals through Sepsis.org ( Sepsis Alliance Clinical Community ( Sepsis Alliance Institute ( and Sepsis Alliance Voices ( awareness is at 65%.
Over 35,000 healthcare professionals across the country have attended sepsis webinars and courses to elevate their practice. About the Advisory Board Purpose
The Sepsis Alliance Advisory Board is made up of individuals with strong areas of expertise who want to support the work of Sepsis Alliance in certain key areas (clinical care, health management, research, industry, finance, government, marketing, etc.). Advisory Board members are approved by the Board Nominating Committee, and do not have governance or fiduciary responsibilities.
The Advisory Board is responsible for advising management and the Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors on matters relating to Sepsis Alliance's strategic planning and execution in the areas of sepsis education, awareness, policy and health equity. The Advisory Board will also advise management and the Board of Directors on significant emerging trends and issues in sepsis provider education, awareness, health equity, and policy and the potential impact of such on Sepsis Alliance. To accomplish these purposes, the Advisory Board will be available on an as-needed and as-available basis to provide advice and support.
Composition
The Advisory Board shall consist of a diverse and talented group on individuals from all sectors related to Sepsis Alliance's mission β To save lives and reduce suffering by improving sepsis awareness and care. Current Advisory Board members represent marketing, legal, home health, critical care, policy, health systems, health care, and more. Advisory Board Councils
The Advisory Board establishes Councils to focus on Sepsis Alliance's strategic priorities. We encourage Advisory Board members to serve on a Council that best aligns with their interest and expertise.
Each Council meets as needed as determined by the Council and Sepsis Alliance staff. Term
The members of the Advisory Board shall serve for a term of two-years. Terms may be renewed with no current maximum. Meetings
The Advisory Board shall meet in person or by phone on a quarterly basis, or more frequently as circumstances may dictate, at a time and place determined by the operating team whereby a maximum number of members may attend. Other individuals may be invited to attend any part of a meeting as and when considered appropriate by management.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Advisory Board shall have the authority to undertake the following: 1. Identify and share with Sepsis Alliance Board and staff any new and emerging trends in sepsis education, policy, and research. 2. Attend Advisory Board meetings. 3. Advise the Board and Sepsis Alliance leadership regarding the quality, direction, and competitiveness of Sepsis Alliance programs. 4. Respond to Sepsis Alliance Board and staff requests for feedback, participation on Councils, and participation in awareness, education or policy efforts.
5. Make a personally meaningful gift (no prescribed minimum requirement) to Sepsis Alliance annually and work with staff to secure additional resources (as appropriate and available to each member) to support Sepsis Alliance's mission. 6. Review and reassess the adequacy of this Charter annually and recommend any proposed changes to the Board for its approval Thank you for your interest in joining the Sepsis Alliance Advisory Board.
