About the position
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Transit Planner. This position supports MDT's transit planning functions. Prepare and assist in the preparation of various transportation plans, programs, policies, and transit needs. Ensure compliance with federal and state laws for development and implementation of such plans, programs, and projects. Research, analyze, and manage financial data to support transportation planning functions including interpretation of federal and state laws and guidelines, developing and managing contract processes, coordinating with local government, non-profits, and tribes on transit planning issues.
This position reports to the Transit Section Supervisor and does not directly supervise others. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. Requirements • Associate degree in Economics, Planning, Business Administration, or a related field and 1 year of related experience (Planner 2). • Associate degree in Economics, Planning, Business Administration, or a related field and 2 years of related experience (Planner 3). • Bachelors degree in Economics, Planning, Business Administration or a related field and 1 year of directly related experience (Planner 4). • Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered for each level.
Such as 3, 4, or 5 years of related experience. • Ability to learn the principles and practices of transportation planning. • Program management skills. • Ability to provide clear verbal and written communication. • A resume detailing your qualifications and work history. • A cover letter of no more than two pages addressing your qualifications for the position.
