The Data Integrity Specialist is responsible for ensuring that data in the Master Patient Index (MPI) is accurate and consistent across the NAH Health System.
Communicates with multiple departments across the enterprise to coordinate, correct, and maintain accurate patient information and other required data for new and existing medical records. Reviews the EMR and medical records created. Supports patient matching activities for population health as well as specific payor platforms. Serves as an SME for HIM processes. Enterprise Master Patient Index Data Integrity β’ Produces and mitigates potential EMR patient overlays, evaluating if overlay was accurate by researching all tools that are available to the Data Integrity team for identification, research, and resolution of identity issues.
β’ Merge decisions made utilizing logic appropriate for each source system, as documented in the Data Integrity standard operating procedure, and are executed on the source systems as appropriate. β’ Oversees the chart correction process in the Cerner. β’ Performs investigation and resolution of non-emergent issues concerning potential medical record electronic errors using daily reports and task queues. β’ Reports task completion and errors made as required by the Director of HIM. β’ Provides coverage for any remediation workflow functions and/or team members as requested.
β’ Promotes collaboration and teamwork within the Data Integrity team as well as any department identified to assist with the remediation of issues. β’ Acknowledges and adapts to changing workflow functions and priorities. β’ Coordinates and communicates consistently and professionally in working any pending tasks or to seek assistance with merge/non-merge decisions. β’ Assists in cross-training other Data Integrity personnel when asked to do so by the Director of HIM Operations, when necessary. β’ Monitors, reviews, verifies, merges, corrects, and updates information concerning patients' medical record numbers and demographic information in the electronic medical record and other established systems.
QA Scanning β’ Performs audits of the enterprise scanning operation. β’ Ensures accuracy rate > 98%. β’ Prepares data for audits. β’ Identifies trends in scanning. β’ Summarizes data and presents reports to leadership. β’ Serves as liaison with departments to thoroughly define scanning processes. β’ Evaluates revenue cycle workflows to identify areas for improvement. β’ Trains new staff on the scanning process in HIM. β’ Monitors patient financial services units on revenue cycle systems, processes, and procedures.
β’ Maintains compliance with government regulations, reimbursement issues, etc. β’ Works with clinical and ancillary operational departments scanning processes. HIM SME β’ Functions as a superuser for new software applications or upgrades in existing applications and assists in training of assigned team members. β’ Services has a liaison for all HIM related projects, to include Health Data Exchange, Patient Portal, Cerner HIM applications. Medical Record Data Analysis / Record Review β’ Assists in the preparation of data for the HIM Committee.
β’ Performs audits for medical records for compliance with
The Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation, and other regulatory agencies. β’ Conducts quantitative and financial analysis along with audits designed to identify opportunities for improvement across the full bolthires of the Revenue Cycle. β’ Conducts analytical reviews to determine the areas of focus for HIM audits. β’ Assists with additional projects as needed. Compliance / Safety β’ Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
