About the position
The Labor and Employment Law Division of the New York City Law Department is accepting applications from attorneys with a minimum of five years of litigation experience to defend the City in complex and challenging state and federal actions arising out of the City's role as an employer. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in labor and employment law, and particularly as developed within a civil litigation context. Division attorneys handle a variety of matters including First Amendment retaliation; gender, race, age and disability discrimination; civil service law issues; and wage and hour litigation.
Responsibilities • Defend the City in complex state and federal actions related to employment law. • Handle litigation involving First Amendment retaliation. • Address issues of gender, race, age, and disability discrimination. • Manage civil service law issues. • Engage in wage and hour litigation. Requirements • Minimum of five years of litigation experience. • Admitted to practice law in the State of New York. • Admitted or eligible for immediate admission to the SDNY and EDNY. Nice-to-haves • Background in labor and employment law, particularly in a civil litigation context.
