- Please check our careers page for current openings and to apply: ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES: The School Counselor is responsible for assisting students in their academic careers at all levels, from elementary to postsecondary education. With the goal of supporting studentsβ academic, career, and social/emotional development, the School Counselor serves as a leader within the school, advocating on behalf of their students and sharing in the creation of a positive environment for learning. The School Counselor ensures use of all TDA resources to maximize the academic and personal growth of each and every child. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: β Assist students and parents with any/all academic inquiries to ensure the highest quality academic development. β Build supportive relationships with the students and their parents through appropriate individual and/or group communication media. β Conduct personal interviews with students at induction to provide individual counseling for students regarding course scheduling, career and/or academic interests and to identify potential academic challenges. β Plan, design and administer career interest inventories and assessments. β Assist students in developing plans to meet their post-secondary goals including community colleges, technical schools, and four-year universities. β Plan, design and manage College Credit Plus opportunities. β Provide information services to parents and students (e.g., testing procedures, program options, graduation requirements, etc.). β Provide written contact, email, and phone notifications to parents/guardians of students who are deficient in their credit status. β Provide information to students needing to attend any additional programs to make up credit deficiencies. β Provide individual counseling for students regarding scheduling upon request of the student, parent, or legal guardian. β Verify graduation checklists and provide assistance and guidance to potential graduating seniors. β Plan and manage graduation ceremonies. β Respect personal privacy. Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information. β Help students understand their personal responsibility for setting goals and achieving success. β Incorporate the effective use of available technology in records management and guidance activities. β Work cooperatively with TRECA SAFE to build programs that address student concerns (i.e. conflict mediation, divorce, grief, personal behavior, etc.). β Attend and/or provide information to IEP teams and RTI teams. Work with team members to reach a consensus on a plan for students requiring assistance. β Target students for testing. β Travel to site locations to proctor mandated state testing. β Provide dropout prevention counseling for students. β Attend any and all meetings, conferences, and guidance related events as requested or necessary. β Interface daily with all required organizational communication systems. β Assist with state testing as needed. β Perform any and all related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: β Masterβs degree in Guidance and Counseling β Current Ohio School Counselor License or ability to obtain a provisional license; counseling experience in a school district preferred β Must reside in Ohio β Knowledge of at-risk population β Excellent customer relation skills β Proficient technology skills β Ability to multitask and execute assigned duties with accuracy β Effective and efficient communication skills (verbal and written) β Is discreet and recognizes importance of maintaining confidentiality when handling or conveying information obtained in work setting Apply tot his job
