About the position
- Responsibilities
- Assess donor needs, concerns, and the impact donation may have on the donor and family.
- Develop a unique support and coordination relationship with the donor, respecting cultural and age-related needs.
- Schedule and conduct donor information sessions.
- Manage scheduling and follow through with the donor's physical exam and medical clearance process.
- Review physical exam results and participate in determining donor suitability and eligibility.
- Facilitate donor clearance with Donor Medical Services and the stem cell collection center.
- Complete all tasks required for donation including managing blood sample and autologous blood collections.
- Verify prescriptions of blood stem cells and marrow requested by transplant centers.
- Facilitate timely collection of samples used to determine infectious disease marker results.
- Communicate case progress with the Case Manager and donor; complete required documentation within designated timelines.
- Establish and work with third-party physical examination sites as needed.
- Contact donor at designated NMDP time points to assess donor recovery and arrange blood samples as needed.
- Remove donation barriers, resolve issues, and manage adverse events as needed.
- Maintain accurate and concurrent documentation and records, following NMDP and department policies and requirements.
- Facilitate donor and recipient communication, information exchange, and survivorship information, monitoring for confidentiality.
- Provide training to third-party providers performing protocol activities on the donor management site's behalf, when required.
- Implement and adopt strategies and systems to achieve Continuous Process Improvement (CPI).
- Attend NMDP sponsored meetings and trainings, as requested.
- Perform all duties in compliance with standard operating procedures, NMDP standards, and applicable laws.
- Requirements
- Ability to flex working hours based on donors' needs, including non-traditional hours (evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays).
- Demonstrate strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrate intermediate computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office software.
- Exhibit well-developed interpersonal skills dealing with people of different cultures and styles.
- Demonstrate advanced communication skills, both written and oral, to connect with a wide range of people.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills and apply concepts of active listening and empathy.
- Learn medical terminology and explain complex medical concepts to the general public in easy-to-understand terms.
- Postsecondary education such as a certificate, associate's, or bachelor's degree.
- Three years of experience interacting with patients, clients, or customers in a healthcare, nonprofit, or business setting.
- Nice-to-haves
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in a health or science field.
- Experience with medical terminology, case-note documentation, and medical histories.
- Patient interaction or care experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience working in a regulated environment, including knowledge of Good Tissue Practices (GTP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
