About the position
- Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate clear course objectives and goals to students.
- Plan and develop an instructional program that helps students learn specific course content and skills.
- Regularly monitor and evaluate students' progress, providing resources and feedback on their performance.
- Structure and manage an environment conducive to learning.
- Model responsibility to self and others for students.
- Follow the school's mission, policies, and procedures.
- Visit partner school sites for NCSSM Connect courses.
- Teach one January term course for the residential program.
- Attend departmental, faculty, and staff meetings.
- Serve on departmental, faculty, and school-wide standing committees.
- Write recommendations for students as requested.
- Participate in professional development and personal intellectual growth activities.
- Provide information, service, and expertise to other schools and organizations.
- Assist students on special projects and independent studies.
- Participate in the selection/admissions reading process for NCSSM programs.
- Provide assistance for school-sponsored programs and extracurricular activities.
- Participate in the implementation of annual conferences and selection processes for various programs.
- Create and implement an extracurricular virtual club or enrichment for NCSSM Connect students.
- Review and revise curriculum and/or create new course offerings.
- Requirements
- Master's degree in Biology, other Natural Sciences, or Science Education.
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in biology.
- Experience teaching gifted and motivated students in online and face-to-face classrooms.
- Enthusiasm for student-centered, hands-on lab or field activities.
- Familiarity with educational and laboratory technology.
- Interest in emphasizing quantitative or computational approaches to science content.
- Preparation for teaching a diverse student population.
- Nice-to-haves
- Experience in the use of educational technology to deliver interactive synchronous remote courses.
- Familiarity with advanced biology topics such as Global Public Health, Dynamics of Epidemics, Genetics and Biotechnology, Intro to Neuroscience, and Anatomy and Physiology.
