Join American Express as a Software Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience in building global-scale software across various technologies during a 10-week summer program.
Your Role
- Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and test applications within agile scrum teams.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Application Architects to design and prioritize features.
- Write code, conduct code reviews, and create unit tests.
- Explore new technologies to solve real-world business challenges.
- Engage in social events, community service projects, and collaborative initiatives with fellow interns.
- Work on projects involving machine learning, big data, native mobile apps, backend services, full stack web applications, or UX/UI development.
- Utilize technologies such as Spring Cloud, WebFlux, Node.js, React, and microservices architecture.
About You
- The company is looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree candidates with expected graduation between December 2026 and June 2027.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical field.
- Experience developing products or projects in academic, professional, or personal settings.
- Familiarity with software development, design, or creative technical projects at an entry level.
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following languages or applications: Java, JavaScript, C#, Python, Rust, Go, Kotlin, Node.js.
- Focus areas and required skills include:
- Back End Development: Required - Java, Python; Preferred - Golang, Big Data; Additional - Data Engineering.
- Front End Development: Required - JavaScript, React; Preferred - RESTful APIs; Additional - Typescript, Accessibility.
- Cloud Engineering: Required - Java; Preferred - Python; Additional - Microservices.
- AI/Machine Learning: Required - Java, Python; Preferred - Microservices; Additional - Awareness of AI/ML, Data Science.
- Mobile: Required - Swift; Preferred - Kotlin; Additional - Mobile testing frameworks, UI/UX Knowledge.
- Full Stack Development: Required - JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Java; Preferred - React, Angular; Additional - Database knowledge, AWS, Azure, GCP.
- Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly salary range: $24.05 to $63.00 plus sign-on bonus.
