Job Description

About the position

As a AI Compiler Engineer on the Renesas HPC team, you will work on compiler and code‑generation technologies that enable AI workloads to run efficiently on next‑generation automotive System‑on‑Chip (SoC) platforms. You will contribute to software that translates AI models into optimized execution for advanced automotive hardware used in software‑defined vehicles (SDVs).
This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about compilers, systems software, and AI acceleration, and who want hands‑on experience working at the intersection of software and hardware in a real‑world, safety‑critical domain.
You will work closely with experienced compiler engineers, hardware architects, and AI specialists, learning how production‑grade AI compilers are built and optimized for automotive use cases.

    Responsibilities
  • Contribute to AI compiler development, including model ingestion, graph transformations, and code generation under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Implement and test compiler optimizations such as operator fusion, scheduling improvements, and memory optimizations
  • Assist in performance analysis and benchmarking of AI workloads on simulators and silicon platforms
  • Work with senior team members to debug correctness and performance issues in compiler pipelines
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (SoC architecture, AI software, systems) to understand hardware constraints and software requirements
  • Write clean, well‑tested code and documentation following engineering best practices
  • Learn automotive software requirements such as determinism, reliability, and quality standards
    Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or graduating soon) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and computer architecture
  • Solid programming skills in C/C++ and/or Python
  • Coursework, projects, or internships related to compilers, systems programming, or machine learning
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following through coursework or projects:
  • Compiler frameworks (LLVM, MLIR, TVM, or similar)Machine learning or AI inference conceptsLow‑level performance optimization or parallel programming
  • Ability to learn quickly, take feedback, and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
    Nice-to-haves
  • Academic or personal projects involving compilers, code generation, or ML systems
  • Exposure to AI models such as CNNs or transformers
  • Understanding of heterogeneous systems (CPU, GPU, NPU, DSP)
  • Internship experience in systems software, embedded software, or AI infrastructure
    Benefits
  • Work on real automotive AI platforms used in production vehicles
  • Learn from experienced engineers working on advanced 3 nm SoC technology
  • Gain exposure to the full stack: AI models → compilers → hardware
  • Build a strong foundation for a long‑term career in compilers, AI systems, or SoC software
  • Be part of a global team shaping the future of software‑defined vehicles
  • Launch and advance your career in technical and business roles across four Product Groups and various corporate functions. You will have the opportunities to explore our hardware and software capabilities and try new things.
  • Make a real impact by developing innovative products and solutions to meet our global customers' evolving needs and help make people’s lives easier, safe and secure.
  • Maximize your performance and wellbeing in our flexible and inclusive work environment. Our people-first culture and global support system, including the remote work option and Employee Resource Groups, will help you excel from the first day.
