The Morgan Lewis AI Lab is seeking an Applied Scientist to design, develop, and optimize AI solutions that enhance the practice and business of law, collaborating with various stakeholders and producing high-quality documentation. Responsibilities Full-Stack Prototyping: Build simple demos and proof-of-concept applications that showcase the value of AI tools to internal clients and firm leadership Model Development: Train and evaluate machine learning models, including fine-tuning large language models (LLMs), using state-of-the-art architectures in both cloud and on-prem environments Opportunity Scoping & Solution Design: Translate ambiguous business and legal challenges into clearly defined technical problem statements and targeted AI solutions Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with attorneys, business professionals, and IT teams to understand needs, manage expectations, and support successful adoption of AI tools Communication & Documentation: Produce high-quality written and verbal communications, including project briefs, experiment plans, stakeholder updates, and user-facing documentation AI Systems Architecture: Design secure, scalable AI infrastructure, including pipelines for natural language processing, automation, and decision-support tools tailored to legal workflows Skills Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, AI, data science, engineering, or a related field Minimum of 1 year of experience in AI, machine learning, or software development, with demonstrated success in translating technical work into real-world solutions Proficiency with machine learning frameworks, NLP techniques, and modern AI models (especially LLMs); familiarity with cloud platforms and on-prem setups Intermediate Python and SQL required; JavaScript or other frontend experience is a plus Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally and distill complex concepts for diverse audiences Passion for AI, a strong sense of curiosity, and the drive to explore what's next Benefits 401(k) eligibility Various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave Company Overview From our offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, we work with clients ranging from established, global Fortune 100 companies to enterprising startups.
