Job Description
Motorola Solutions is a global community focused on safety and security technologies. They are seeking an Applications Engineer-I to conduct technical activities related to solutions engineering and customer support, working closely with customers and the Sales team to drive product development and support system integration duties.
Responsibilities
- Design and test complete solutions that solve unique technical problems
- Define new products and features to fill gaps and perform product evaluations and field trials for new product features and accessories
- Provide comprehensive support to customers and the sales team through troubleshooting, system integration engineering, product recommendations, and technical analysis via phone, online, and in person
- Participate in an off-hour, on-call support rotation (on a voluntary or scheduled basis as business needs require) to address critical customer escalations
- Work individually and with Engineering teams to support requests via in-house or through field testing and validation
- Test and harden existing features through firmware and hardware changes in realistic applications
- Support the Sales Engineering team by helping prepare for demonstrations, training, testing, or recreating bugs and issues seen in the field
- Create and maintain customer-facing documents and content including manuals, guides, videos, application notes, etc. to support customers and sales more efficiently
- Oversee and assist the RMA and Loaner teams by providing guidance, equipment recommendations, and vetting customer requests
- Travel requirements – Up to 25% travel to provide in-person engineering support to customers and the sales team, including demos, troubleshooting, system integration, and training
- Perform other related duties, of which the above are representative
Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field
- Proficiency with instruments such as spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and other radio frequency and data network test equipment and testing
- Must possess an ability to work independently, take initiative, multitask, and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and customers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must to effectively communicate with customers and internally across the entire organization
- Excellent organizational skills and attentiveness to details
- Proficiency with PC office applications and mobile devices
- Willingness to travel and work at customer sites
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to clients under U.S. federal contracts
- All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test
- Proficiency with TCP/IP protocol and networking
- Experience with operating and testing IP radios/modems
- Knowledge of wireless communication systems, radio frequency signal propagation, and digital communication technologies
- Experience with testing embedded radio communication systems
- Familiarity with Linux
- Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or C/C++
