Job Description

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is a multimodal agency with a global reputation for excellence. They are currently seeking multiple Assistant Office Engineers to support the construction engineering process and ensure compliance with project specifications and regulations.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly progress estimates, construction reports, and various administrative documents, including force account rates, change orders, and contract records
  • Support contract closeout, material documentation, and overall construction administration, utilizing Unifier for the administration of construction contracts
  • Check and compute field note records for use in calculating project quantities and payments
  • Review contract records, enter and check contract computer ledger entries, and review contract material submittals for conformance to requirements
  • Assist or direct others in documenting construction activities, including materials verification, field note records, and DBE tracking
  • Perform inspections at project sites, measure and record material quantities, and visually inspect material installations for conformance with contract plans and specifications
  • Coordinate with contractor representatives regarding schedule and clarify questions pertaining to contract documents and prepare and coordinate contract estimates and final records
  • Perform drafting and design using CADD and support design project scheduling using Primavera P6

Skills

  • Possesses strong knowledge and skill in reviewing, processing, and maintaining construction contract documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with WSDOT contract requirements, plans, and specifications
  • Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in verifying field records, daily reports, material certifications, and payment documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and comprehend engineering plans, specifications, and contract provisions
  • Skilled in performing engineering-related calculations using tools such as Microsoft Excel
  • Capable of reviewing Contractor submittals, shop drawings, and working drawings for technical accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of audiences including contractors, inspectors, and other industry representatives
  • Demonstrates professionalism and clarity in correspondence and technical documentation
  • Works collaboratively within a team environment and effectively conveys technical information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organization in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Skilled in independently identifying, analyzing, and resolving documentation or compliance issues
  • Effectively balances workload across multiple projects, meets deadlines, and contributes to team objectives while adapting to changing priorities or project conditions
  • Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth
  • Takes action to meet the needs of others
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles
  • Ability to travel within the region to perform inspection duties at project sites
  • Ability to traverse rough, steep, and uneven terrain and work elevated heights, above 25 feet over land or water
  • Ability to maneuver and transport various materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays to support construction activities or to respond to non-scheduled or emergency projects
  • Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or equivalent applied work experience
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of transportation engineering principles and practices related to highway construction
  • Demonstrates familiarity with surveying methods, roadway geometrics, and materials sampling and testing procedures used in transportation projects
