Job Description
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity across extensive transmission lines. The Associate Planning Engineer will coordinate and review technical studies related to the interconnection of new generation and transmission facilities, ensuring compliance with system requirements and assisting in various reports and inquiries. Responsibilities Reviews proposed project facilities including the conceptual design for interconnection of the project to the NYS transmission system and associated modeling data provided for the project Prepares base cases to be used in interconnection studies Provides technical coordination with others involved in the performance of interconnection studies including the project developers, transmission owners, consultants, etc Performs or reviews the technical analysis (power flow, short circuit, and/or stability analysis) for interconnection studies Evaluates and identifies any system upgrade facilities and/or system deliverability upgrades required for proposed projects and develops bolthires estimates for the identified upgrades Prepares and/or reviews interconnection study reports and associated documentation Participates in project study meetings Skills Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required Good teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills required Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents Ability to write technical documents or presentations with tables, charts and graphs Ability to comprehend and apply advanced mathematical principles such as calculus, modern algebra and/or statistical theory Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations and proofs of theorems Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a range of intellectual and practical problems Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables A concentration in electric power system engineering is preferred Master's degree is desired Course studies related to power system planning and design, particularly transmission planning or design are highly desired Experience in electric power systems helpful; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience Knowledge of the following software tools is desired: Power Flow (Siemens PTI PSS/E & PowerGEM TARA), Transfer Capability Analysis (PowerGEM TARA program or equivalent), Stability (primarily PSS/E), Short Circuit (primarily ASPEN) Benefits Competitive salaries
