The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is seeking ambitious and driven individuals to join their Tax Advisor Unit as Associate Tax Auditors. The role involves providing technical tax assistance and responding to complex inquiries while ensuring compliance with California tax laws. Responsibilities Provide technical tax assistance and guidance in a contact center environment handling phone calls from the public forty to fifty percent (40%-50%) of the time Respond to complex tax inquiries received from taxpayers and the general public Analyzing different business scenarios and providing technical tax guidance in writing, through custom letter responses, while utilizing applicable tax laws, regulations, annotations, policies, procedures, and other online resources Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Familiarity with California Revenue and Taxation Code Familiarity with California Tax Regulation Familiarity with CDTFA Tax Annotations Familiarity with CDTFA Audit and Compliance Manuals Familiarity with Centralized Systems Familiarity with California Tax Returns and Schedules Familiarity with CDTFA Contact Center Phone System Ability to analyze different business scenarios Ability to provide technical tax guidance in writing Ability to handle phone calls from the public forty to fifty percent (40%-50%) of the time Eligibility for a Training and Development (T&D) assignment if not currently meeting minimum qualifications Fingerprinting and successful background investigation Travel may be required up to five percent (5%) of the time Position may require overnight travel for up to four consecutive nights to meet training requirements Permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA or current/former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years or current/former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years or persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty Benefits Daily access to trainers and leads to ensure a smooth transition to our department.
