Job Description

The Business Development Representative role focuses on promoting and selling Sun Life insurance products to independent advisors, engaging new advisors, and providing support for existing business partners.
Responsibilities
- Strategic prospecting of new advisors to increase sales, including following up on leads
- Increase productivity of existing advisors who have done limited insurance business with Sun Life
- Promote and recommend Sun Life product illustrations and sales strategies
- Provide individual case support for new and existing business partners with the goal of helping advisors understand Sun Life products, processes and to place new business
- Work with advisors in competitive situations to provide the support needed to win the sale
- Provide life and health product and illustration training, including awareness of sales strategies and the sales cycle to independent advisors via phone and virtual conferencing tools
- Participate in outbound contact campaigns designed to raise awareness of the team and its ability to support advisors
- Proactively identify advisors for potential opportunities
- Participate in post-launch sales initiatives to develop advisor interest in campaigns and product enhancements, with the goal of generating sales and increasing market share
- Work with the Regional Director to develop a tactical plan for the region that will provide direction for the marketing and sale of Sun Life products and services within the firms
- Maintain knowledge of our current and future product shelf as developed
- Create and maintain activities, opportunities, tasks and events on SalesForce
- Respond to inquiries about Sun Life's individual life and health products and processes
Skills
- Knowledge of life and health insurance products within the market
- Solid understanding of the independent distribution channel
- Proven effective problem solving and complaint resolution skills
- Ability to prioritize competing inquiries from phone and e-mail and multi-task a variety of requests
- Strong phone and active listening skills
- Demonstrated proficient interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication
- Proficient in sales discovery conversations (understand the advisor's business)
- Strong time management skills
- Strong team player
- Strong presentation skills
- Bilingualism required in specific markets (English and Mandarin)
- Life license would be considered an asset
