ED Charge Capture Coder – Remote Contract Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced ED Charge Capture Coder to support a high-volume Emergency Department on a contract basis. This role focuses on accurate outpatient facility coding and charge capture to support timely billing and revenue integrity.
This is a remote position working Mountain Standard Time hours, with a strong likelihood of extension based on performance and business need.
Job Description
In this role, you will review Emergency Department clinical documentation and accurately capture facility charges for outpatient encounters. You will apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines while ensuring compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements. Productivity expectations are approximately 20–25 encounters per hour, depending on chart complexity.
You will work closely with clinical and revenue cycle teams to clarify documentation, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate charge capture. This role requires strong attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Key Responsibilities
- Perform ED outpatient facility coding and charge capture
- Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines accurately
- Utilize Epic and 3M coding tools for documentation review and code assignment
- Meet established productivity and quality benchmarks
- Review documentation for completeness and query providers as needed
- Ensure compliance with CMS, payer, and internal guidelines
- Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
- Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of ED Charge Capture or outpatient facility coding experience
- Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA)
- Experience using Epic EMR
- Experience using 3M coding software
- Strong knowledge of ED workflows, E/M, injections/infusions, and facility charge capture
- Ability to work Mountain Standard Time hours
