Job Description

Tala is dedicated to unlocking the economic potential of the Global Majority—the four billion people overlooked by traditional financial systems. With close to half a billion dollars raised in equity and debt, we now serve millions of customers across three continents. Tala has been recognized on the Fortune Impact 20 list, CNBC’s Disruptor 50 for five consecutive years, CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Company, Forbes’ Fintech 50 for eight years straight, and Chief’s New Era of Leadership Award. As we grow our product offerings, geographic footprint, and crypto initiatives, we’re seeking entrepreneurial individuals who are energized by our mission.

By building a unique platform that supports lending and other financial services worldwide, we enable people in emerging markets to launch and grow small businesses, manage daily expenses, and pursue their financial aspirations with confidence. More than nine million people across Kenya, the Philippines, Mexico, and India have used Tala’s products. With a globally distributed team, we operate remotely first, with offices in Santa Monica, Nairobi, Mexico City, Manila, and Bangalore.

Most people who join Tala do so because they feel aligned with our mission. If the impact you can make here excites you, we’d love to connect.

Tala is at a critical inflection point. We’ve built a globally recognized, mission-focused company that has already transformed millions of lives. As we move into our next phase, we are searching for a transformational People leader to help shape our future. This is not a maintenance role—it is a chance to build, evolve, and scale a global People organization that will sustain our mission well into the future, blending the heart of our culture with the discipline of a world-class public company.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Partnership and Talent Strategy: Create and implement a holistic talent management system covering the entire employee journey—from hiring to development to retention—to ensure we’re positioned for long-term success.
  • Organizational Design and Effectiveness: Lead efforts to refine our organizational structure for greater speed, accountability, and scalability. Guide our performance management and talent calibration practices to cultivate a high-performance culture.
  • Culture and Employee Engagement: Serve as the lead advocate for Tala’s culture and values. Develop and execute initiatives to measure and strengthen employee engagement, ensuring Tala remains a top-choice employer.
  • Total Rewards and IPO Readiness: Direct the design and delivery of all compensation, equity, and benefits programs so they remain competitive and aligned with public company standards. Lead the People organization’s role in the S-1 process and subsequent public company responsibilities.
  • People Operations, Systems, and Analytics: Build a scalable, data-driven People Operations function that supports employees globally. Enhance our HR technology ecosystem to provide meaningful insights and enable strong talent management.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Advance our global DEI strategy and help create an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse communities we serve.
  • Talent Acquisition and Management: Lead a high-performing global recruiting function capable of hiring exceptional and diverse talent across all areas, from corporate roles to large operational teams.

Requirements

  • More than 10 years of progressive People/HR experience, including at least 5 years as the most senior People leader (VP or CPO) in a fast-growing global company.
  • Proven success building and leading high-performing, globally distributed People teams.
  • Strong expertise in developing executive compensation and equity programs for companies before and after going public.
  • Ability to serve as a trusted partner to the CEO and executive team, demonstrating excellent communication skills, humility, and empathy.
  • Experience working with diverse employee groups, including corporate, technical, and large-scale operational teams such as contact centers.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Background in fintech or high-growth technology companies. Hands-on experience in, or strong passion for, emerging markets.
  • Direct experience guiding a company through major scaling events, such as an IPO or a phase of hyper-growth.

Salary range: $325,000–$375,000 per year.

We firmly believe that inclusion fuels innovation, and we’re proud to have a diverse team representing a wide mix of backgrounds and experiences. We hire talented individuals regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability.
