Flexible location Schedule B, Band 8 Ongoing, full-time role Open to internal applicants only The Role The ABC is looking for a Chief Sub-Editor to lead a team of digital producers and subeditors to ensure stories for the ABC News app and website are edited for accuracy and clarity in line with ABC News style and editorial standards. The successful candidate will be a people leader with the ability to develop others and a commitment to continuous improvement. The Job Oversee subediting workflows and ensure the quality of stories for ABC News app and website under the direction of the Editor Publishing Subedit digital content for accuracy, clarity, and ABC style, offering guidance and feedback to journalists and subeditors. Work with the Production Editor to allocate resources and ensure strong headlines, teasers, and overall editorial quality. Coordinate publishing with Front-Page Editors and support engaging digital storytelling across teams. Lead communication between subediting and content teams to maintain consistency, accuracy, and trust in ABC content. Conduct quality reviews, identify trends, and support continuous improvement through training and development. Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance culture through effective leadership and communication. Proven leadership and sound judgment under deadline pressure. Skilled at developing and mentoring journalists and subeditors. Strong collaboration and communication, with strong relationships across ABC teams Exceptional time management and organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines. Knowledge of digital news trends and strong experience with publishing systems including Core Media. Commitment to continuous improvement and diverse storytelling.
