Job Description

Company Overview
Midwestern Career College is a dynamic higher education institution dedicated to empowering students with career-ready skills in healthcare, business, IT, and language training. With multiple campuses across the Chicago-metro region and beyond, the college is committed to fostering academic excellence and professional growth for diverse student populations.

Job Summary
We are hiring a detail-oriented content professional to create and/or transform incoming ideas, photo, video, and announcement assets into accurate, usable content across multiple discovery surfaces to support AI, LLM, and other forms of AI-based brand discovery as well as represent superb and engaging human-facing content. This role is not a marketing or strategy position.

You will work with content created by yourself or others—often informal or imperfect—and determine how it can be responsibly edited, formatted, and published within established guidelines to extract maximum possible value for our career college’s brand ecosystem. The work requires strong written English, careful judgment, and an understanding of how content is interpreted by a wide range of automated systems and human-facing platforms.

This is a full-time, synchronous remote role with set business hours. It is best suited for someone who can work independently in a fluid environment, interpret requests with good judgment, and move work forward without needing exhaustive instructions or rigid processes.

    Responsibilities
  • Transform source content created by various college departments or students as well as the social media team (event details, informal photos, short descriptions, short videos, podcast, etc.) into multiple digital formats and angles to be used across various discovery systems such as Google Business Profile, college website, etc.
  • As needed, create content yourself that meets the needs of the college’s AIO-GEO ecosystem across its discovery surfaces (website, GMB, etc.)
  • Work closely with the social media team to review, refine, and finalize social posts and videos prior to publication, ensuring clarity, tone alignment, and institutional appropriateness
  • Edit and refine written English posts crafted by our social media team for clarity, tone, and correctness, serving as the final editorial review before publication
  • Evaluate whether content is appropriate for specific platforms and systems, whether any piece of content is appropriate for the college as an institution, and identify when assets should not be used
  • Prepare content to leverage environments influenced by automated systems (AI, LLM, BERT/MUM, MUVERA) which can surface brand information and snippets as an ecosystem representing the college brand
  • Review social media captions and short video content for accuracy, tone alignment, and contextual appropriateness
  • Work with a wide variety of content types (events, announcements, updates) with attention to detail and consistency
  • Collaborate in real time during standard business hours to review, edit, and publish content
  • Flag content issues or gaps without independently redefining messaging or strategy
    Skills
  • Be able to work independently in a fluid environment, interpret requests with good judgment, and move work forward without needing exhaustive instructions or rigid processes.
  • Take pride in editing and refining written English for clarity, tone, and correctness
  • Approach editing as a collaborative practice, using positive suggestions and clear rationale to strengthen content while maintaining trust with teammates
  • Exercise good judgment about where content is appropriate and where it is not
  • Work effectively with content created by non-specialists and improve clarity without changing intent
  • Pay close attention to detail and consistency across platforms
  • Create content where you see the need, or suggest to the appropriate team new avenues of content that can strengthen the college’s presence for both human beings and AI
  • Understand and engage with a basic working understanding of how modern search and discovery systems work in distributing content, such as vector-based retrieval, LLM-mediated interpretation, and platform-specific framing of content (e.g., Google Business Profile, BERT/MUM, MUVERA)
  • Be dependable and fully engaged during set business hours (9a-6p CT), with this role as their primary professional commitment
  • Value accuracy, responsibility, and steadiness over creativity or experimentation
    What This Role Is Not
  • Not a marketing or branding position
  • Not a strategy, campaign, or audience-development role
  • Not a copywriting or storytelling job, although you will tweak and may write short copy
  • Not focused on traditional SEO strategy, performance metrics, or optimization
  • Not a freelance, consulting, or project-based arrangement
  • Not suitable for candidates seeking highly flexible, async-only schedules
  • Not a good fit for those planning to balance multiple full-time roles

This role requires consistent real-time availability and sustained focus as a single, full-time position.

    Qualifications / Requirements
  • Exceptional written English and editorial judgment, including the ability to polish content for clarity, tone, and credibility without inflating or distorting meaning
  • Strong meta-cognition around content rules and constraints, with the ability to reason through novel situations rather than rely on predefined templates
  • Understanding that today’s digital platforms are machine-mediated, and understanding the ways in which content is interpreted by algorithms, LLMs, and automated systems as well as by people
  • Ability to evaluate content created by others and surface its best value across varying discovery surfaces for both human readers and AI-mediated systems
  • Ability to create context-complete content when provided with naive inputs (ex. team notifies of new externship partner — this role will determine where this information can benefit the college ecosystem and write the blog post, etc.)
  • Demonstrated judgment about what content should and should not be published in public and machine-filtered environments
  • Comfort working with large language models (LLM, e.g., ChatGPT or similar tools) as part of the content development and review process, using these thoughtfully rather than uncritically
  • Ability to assess how different platforms infer meaning and legitimacy from content (e.g., photos, captions, metadata, context), and adjust usage accordingly
  • High attention to detail across text, images, captions, video content, and metadata, including accuracy, tone alignment, and contextual fit
  • Comfort working with imperfect, unstructured, or na?vely produced source material and determining appropriate, sophisticated downstream use
  • Ability to use AI tools to reason through unfamiliar problems, research emerging systems, and improve content decisions over time.
    This Role Does Not Involve…
  • Marketing strategy, growth planning, or campaign ownership
  • SEO specialization or performance optimization
  • Copywriting portfolios or creative branding work
  • UX/UI design, development, or automation skills
    Compensation & Location Notes
  • Salary: $50,000–$55,000 annually, full-time, salaried
  • Work may be remote, but is synchronous and performed during Central Time business hours of 9a-6p Mon-Fri

Before applying:

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys careful, behind-the-scenes content work framed around a working understanding of machine-mediated meaning in the modern AI-LLM era, and prefers exercising disciplined, context-aware creativity to create optimal results for both humans and AI. If you are seeking a marketing or strategy position, or if you are looking for flexible or asynchronous work, this role will likely not be a fit.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
