About the position
The CTY Educator - Be A Biologist! position at Johns Hopkins University involves developing and delivering engaging academic experiences for advanced learners in biology. The role emphasizes facilitated learning and community building among students in grades 2 and 3, focusing on plants and animals. The educator will plan and lead courses, provide feedback, and contribute to action research, all while collaborating with a community of professional peers.
- Responsibilities
- Complete all required training and onboarding activities. ,
- Familiarize yourself with course manuals and resources. ,
- Plan in-class and out-of-class activities and assessments. ,
- Organize student-facing materials in Microsoft Teams and/or Moodle. ,
- Prepare the classroom space for the first day of class. ,
- Submit syllabus and required materials for approval. ,
- Deliver engaging courses featuring facilitated learning. ,
- Provide ongoing feedback to students within 48 business hours. ,
- Administer pre- and post-tests as required. ,
- Complete end-of-course evaluations for each student. ,
- Assign grades according to established rubrics. ,
- Establish classroom norms and communicate expectations for student conduct. ,
- Attend to student health and wellness matters according to established protocols. ,
- Communicate with parents and students according to CTY guidelines. ,
- Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner. ,
- Attend all required staff meetings and professional learning experiences. ,
- Participate in action research by administering surveys or completing data collection tasks.
- Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university is required. ,
- At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience is required. ,
- Advanced knowledge of biology is essential. ,
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. ,
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds is required.
- Nice-to-haves
- Master's Degree is preferred. ,
- Experience working with advanced learners or training in gifted education is preferred. ,
- Experience teaching science to elementary or middle school students.
