MatX is a company focused on advancing AI technology through efficient machine learning workloads. They are seeking a Developer Augmentation Engineer to assist architects, enhance workflows with AI, and engage in hands-on projects related to hardware architecture and machine learning experiments.
Responsibilities

- Our hardware architecture: spec, diagrams, rationale
- Rust simulator for our architecture
- RTL code of our behemoth-scale AI Acceleration ASIC
- Design Verification of this ASIC
- Infrastructure to enable all of the above
- High-level Python simulations for architectural features
- ML experiments for validating our approach to AI
- Writing RL environments to improve frontier-llm performance on hardware design tasks
Skills
- 0 - 2 years of experience with systems programming using Rust / Python / HDLs
- Linux experience is a must
- Non-coursework projects preferred; among HDLs, RTL experience preferred
- You are a strong communicator, with the ability to flex to various styles
- You have a 'Get Things Done' mentality
- You are genuinely interested in people and see the support of others as enabling people's best work for the success of the company
- You are able to context switch, shifting between tactical and big-picture
- You believe that kindness matters
- This is a hybrid role that will require you to work from our Mountain View, CA office 3 days a week on Tuesday through Thursday
- All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and work from our offices in Mountain View Tuesdays-Thursdays
- This position requires access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls
- Experience optimizing hardware or software
- ML experience, especially with LLMs
- Infrastructure experience: Google Cloud Platform and Github
- Experience with CLI coding agents: incl. Codex / Claude Code / Gemini CLI
