Job Description
BetterInvesting is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing investment education to individuals. The Director of Education & Member Learning will lead the strategy, development, and delivery of educational programs, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and engaging learners effectively.
Responsibilities
- Own the strategy, development, and delivery of all BetterInvesting educational programs, including online courses, webinars, workshops, and in-person events
- Lead, develop, and manage a team spanning home office education and magazine staff and volunteer educators, setting clear expectations, coaching for growth, and holding the team accountable for results
- Develop and manage the department budget, monitoring expenses and anticipating resource needs
- Serve as the primary Home Office subject matter expert on BetterInvesting's core analytical framework (the Stock Selection Guide) and the educational resources built around it
- Design and maintain a structured, sequenced curriculum built around the SSG, covering foundational concepts for beginners through advanced applications for experienced investors
- Develop new educational pathways that meet learners where they are, with clear progression from introductory to mastery-level content
- Lead the team to create compelling content across multiple formats: video tutorials, interactive tools, written guides, and live instruction. Work closely with marketing to ensure appropriate reach, deployment, and alignment with SEO and digital acquisition goals
- Establish metrics for educational effectiveness and continuously improve based on member outcomes, working with marketing to understand the impact of educational programming on member acquisition and retention
- Identify and cultivate relationships with subject matter experts and guest instructors
- Serve as the primary Home Office point of contact for BIVA
- Equip and empower volunteers to deliver BetterInvesting's educational mission effectively, providing the tools, frameworks, training, and support they need to teach with confidence and consistency
- Collaborate with BIVA to develop and refine educational content that volunteers can effectively deliver to chapters and investment clubs
- Represent volunteer perspectives in Home Office strategy discussions
- Oversee BetterInvesting Magazine and ensure editorial content aligns with the organization's educational mission and vision
- Collaborate with the Editor in Chief on content strategy to ensure consistency between published content and core SSG methodology
Skills
- Deep, genuine interest in individual investing and personal finance; you don't need to be a professional investor, but you have a working knowledge of fundamental stock analysis, believe in its power as a framework for everyday investors, and can make that conviction contagious to learners at every level
- A genuine willingness to develop deep fluency in BetterInvesting's analytical frameworks; prior knowledge of the SSG is not required
- Demonstrated ability to take complex subject matter and build structured, sequenced educational programs around it, from foundational concepts to advanced applications; the content drives the curriculum, not the other way around
- 1–2 years of direct experience designing and delivering online learning programs; online education requires distinct instructional design skills, and comfort with digital learning environments, asynchronous formats, and learner engagement strategies is essential for this role
- Experience managing and developing a team, with the ability to set clear expectations, coach for growth, and hold people accountable
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analytical concepts for non-expert audiences
- Comfort with quantitative analysis and financial calculations; the SSG is a fundamentals-based framework, and the ability to work fluently with numbers is essential to teaching it effectively
- Bachelor's degree (Master's in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or related field preferred)
- Background in financial services, investment education, or personal finance, whether professional, academic, or as a committed individual investor
- Prior familiarity with the Stock Selection Guide or similar fundamental analysis frameworks is a plus, but not required; what matters is the ability and eagerness to develop genuine fluency
- Experience with learning management systems and educational technology
- Track record of successful curriculum modernization
- Experience working with volunteer organizations or distributed teams
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- Generous PTO
