  • *Job Summary and Qualifications**

The role of the PRN chaplain will be to provide coverage when there is a need. The PRN Chaplain extends care, compassion, and spiritual resources in a respectful and individualized way to persons of all cultural and religious heritages. Works with all hospital departments and personnel to provide spiritual guidance and support during illness, injury and/or emergency to patients, family members, visitors, hospital staff, and physicians. Provides leadership and counseling to employees as requested. Employee will recognize the population specific needs of the patients and apply the appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviors to meet those needs when performing patient activities.

Provide visitations and spiritual support to patients, family members, and employees.

Collaborate and coordinate patient visits for area clergy.

Provide crisis intervention where appropriate.

When on-call, make every effort to respond to calls within 10 minutes and arrive within 60 minutes of being called.

Respond to interdisciplinary team referrals and work as an effective interdisciplinary team member.

Follow patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.

Promote consistent, positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.

Demonstrate caring and empathy in all interactions and advocates for patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions.

Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications.

Document encounters in electronic medical record.

Engage in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient's experience, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.

Participate as an active member of the health care team and positively promote the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.

Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate behaviors consistent with established policies/procedures.

Seek opportunities to impact the growth of the organization by promoting excellence in patient experience and providing high quality care to the patients served.

Fulfill the duty and responsibility to maintain competence and to continue personal and professional growth.

Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and/or supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.

Perform other duties as assigned.

    Practice and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" and "Mission and Value Statement."
  • *What qualifications you will need:**

+ Work experience required if Master's Degree (Theology or religious education degree) has not been obtained:

· Five years' experience in hospital pastoral care work

or

· At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education

+ Endorsement or commission by a faith group or a connection to a recognized religious community required

+ Experience with death and dying, the grieving process required

+ Membership on American Association of Pastoral Counselors or Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, required

+ Board Certified as a Chaplain, preferred

+ CISM trained, or obtain training within 12 months of hire date required
