South Bronx United (SBU), a pioneering sports-based youth development organization, is seeking dedicated and passionate Post-Secondary Student Mentors to guide and support our alumni in their college journey. As a mentor, you will play a vital role in helping young adults aged 18-24 navigate the challenges of higher education, fostering their social, emotional, and academic growth, and empowering them to succeed in their careers and beyond.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Build a meaningful relationship with your mentee, providing guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their post-secondary journey

  • Meet with your mentee at least once a month, either in-person or via video call, to discuss their progress, goals, and challenges

  • Help your mentee create a study plan, review their syllabuses, and select classes for the next semester

  • Track outcomes and goals throughout the academic year, updating our staff on student progress and identifying areas for improvement

  • Attend quarterly training sessions with other mentors to enhance your skills and knowledge

Requirements:



  • College experience and/or degree required (first-generation college students are welcome to apply)

  • Enthusiasm for working with young adults aged 18-24 and a passion for empowering their growth and development

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, cultural awareness, sensitivity, and adaptability

  • Ability to commit to monthly meetings with your mentee and quarterly training sessions with other mentors
