As a volunteer crisis counselor, you'll join a community of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to helping students, saving lives, and enriching their own lives through a truly meaningful experience. **Key Responsibilities** As a volunteer crisis counselor on our HelpChat Line, your key responsibilities will include: * Providing emotional support and guidance to youth aged 13-24 who are struggling with bullying, cyberbullying, and mental health issues * Listening actively and empathetically to young people's concerns and providing a safe and non-judgmental space for them to express themselves * Making appropriate referrals to local resources and services that can provide further support and guidance * Providing crisis intervention and support to young people who are at risk of suicide or self-harm * Maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and respecting the trust and confidentiality of the young people you support * Participating in comprehensive training programs and ongoing supervision and advanced trainings to ensure you're equipped to deal with the wide range of issues you'll confront on the HelpChat Line **Essential Qualifications** To be considered for this volunteer opportunity, you'll need to meet the following essential qualifications: * Be at least 19 years old * Be at least a sophomore or junior undergraduate or graduate student in the field of psychology or social work * Have experience in psychology, social work, or crisis counseling * Be very tech-savvy and have your own computer with high-speed internet connection (working from mobile devices is not permitted) * Complete an application and background check * Have an interest in working with youth who are bullied, cyberbullied, and who may be at risk for suicide * Be patient, detail-oriented, and thorough, with excellent communication skills * Commit to a minimum of 6 months, with a minimum of 12 hours per month, including 3 four-hour evening shifts **Preferred Qualifications** While the following qualifications are not essential, they are highly desirable: * Having a second language is a plus * Being able to read, write, and fluently converse in English * Having experience working with young people who have been bullied or cyberbullied * Having experience in crisis intervention and support * Having experience in providing emotional support and guidance to young people **Training and Support** As a volunteer crisis counselor, you'll receive comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure you're equipped to deal with the wide range of issues you'll confront on the HelpChat Line. Our online intensive Volunteer Training Program is taught by our experts and is dynamic and highly interactive. You'll also receive ongoing supervision and advanced trainings to ensure you're providing the best possible support to the young people you work with. **Work Environment and Company Culture** As a volunteer crisis counselor, you'll be working remotely from your own computer, which means you can volunteer from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.
