Job Overview As a Big Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be an integral part of our product engineering or delivery and integration team, reporting to an Engineering Lead. Your primary focus will be on software development, with intermediate to advanced-level capacity in programming improvement. You will contribute to software works through reliable development practices, participate in code reviews and automated testing, and troubleshoot essential programming components to identify code defects for remediation.
Your role will also involve enabling the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments, as well as automating solutions in test or production environments and scaling applications based on demand projections. Key Responsibilities Software development, including ongoing refactoring of code and driving continuous improvement in code structure and quality Participating in code reviews and automated testing, as well as troubleshooting essential programming components Enabling the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments Automating solutions in test or production environments and scaling applications based on demand projections Leading a small team of engineers and inspiring them to achieve their full potential Influencing colleagues with innovative changes and improvements by challenging the status quo and demonstrating risk-taking Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
You should have at least 3+ years of software development experience, with a strong background in programming languages such as Core Java or Python/Scala. You should also have experience working with Hadoop, Spark, and data warehousing concepts, as well as knowledge of financial reporting environments and distributed systems. Additionally, you should be proficient in UNIX shell scripting and have experience with data pipelines, batch and real-time data processing, and system application development.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with cloud platforms like GCP/AWS, building microservices and scalable solutions 3+ years of experience with designing and building solutions using Kafka streams or queues Experience with GitHub/Bitbucket and using bolthires/CD pipelines Experience with NoSQL databases such as HBase, Couchbase, or MongoDB Excellent technical and analytical skills, as well as strong communication and project management abilities Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess a range of skills and competencies, including: Strong programming skills in languages such as Core Java or Python/Scala Experience with Hadoop, Spark, and data warehousing concepts Knowledge of financial reporting environments and distributed systems Proficiency in UNIX shell scripting Experience with data pipelines, batch and real-time data processing, and system application development Excellent technical and analytical skills, as well as strong communication and project management abilities
