Job Description
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is North America's largest transportation network, serving a vast population across a large geographic area. The Financial Analyst Levels I, II, and III roles involve providing support and analysis for the Management and Budget Unit, including budget development, expense tracking, and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Develop budgets and projections for future years for the departments of Operations, Maintenance, Law, Revenue Management, and others as needed
- Track actual expenses for non-labor categories against the budget, investigate differences, and provide variance explanations
- Undertake economic, revenue, and/or expenditure research projects as needed
- Contribute to the writing and production of the Year-End Report, Annual Reports, Financial Plan narratives, and other materials
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the personnel budget, including capital reimbursable hours
- Other duties as assigned
Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in or ability to learn the Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn organizational and presentation skills
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to work with all internal levels within a given organization
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn, communicate, and interact well with external agencies
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn analytical and/or quantitative skills
- Bachelor's degree in business, Transportation, Public Policy or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Minimum 2 years of related experience for Analyst – Level II
- Minimum 4 years of related experience for Analyst – Level III
- Knowledge of Multidimensional Database Management systems, such as Hyperion Essbase
- Master's degree in a related field
- Familiarity with the MTA's policies and procedures
- Familiarity with the New York City Subway System and its operations
