Our client is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Forensic Accountant to join their esteemed accounting team in **Virginia Beach, Virginia, US**. This pivotal role involves investigating financial irregularities, fraud, and other complex accounting matters for litigation support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, investigative techniques, and the ability to meticulously analyze financial data. You will be instrumental in gathering, preserving, and analyzing accounting evidence, preparing detailed reports, and providing expert testimony when required. Key Responsibilities: Conducting in-depth financial investigations into suspected fraud, embezzlement, and other financial crimes. Analyzing complex financial records, including general ledgers, bank statements, invoices, and other supporting documentation. Reconciling discrepancies and identifying patterns of financial misconduct. Quantifying financial damages and losses in legal disputes. Assisting legal counsel with case strategy and preparation. Preparing clear and concise forensic accounting reports, often used as evidence in legal proceedings. Presenting findings in a courtroom setting as an expert witness. Collaborating with law enforcement agencies and other external stakeholders. Developing and implementing internal control recommendations to prevent future financial irregularities. Staying current with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical standards throughout investigations. Utilizing specialized forensic accounting software and data analysis tools. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA and/or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) designation is highly preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in forensic accounting, auditing, or a related investigative field. Demonstrated experience in financial investigation and litigation support. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, and fraud detection techniques. Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, IDEA, ACL) and accounting software. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial information to non-financial audiences and legal professionals. Experience in preparing and delivering expert witness testimony is a significant advantage. High degree of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
