The Consulting Role
APL is seeking a consultant to assist our US investment and asset management team. This is an hourly consulting engagement, structured as a flexible, remote role with responsibilities that vary by engagement and evolve over time.
Details of the Services to be Provided
APL is a real estate investment firm managing an active residential portfolio in the United States and building a data center platform in Japan. APL is developing tools, workflows, and analytical frameworks to operate at the next level. You will assist the investment and asset management teams, and contribute to how we use AI and data to improve both deal execution and portfolio management.
- The services may include assistance in one or all of the following areas:
- Investment and Research: market screening, financial modeling (build or stress-test), Investment Committee memo preparation, portfolio and covenant tracking, and ad hoc research.
- Technology and AI: building prompt libraries and automated workflows; developing AI-assisted screening and underwriting tools; and finding new ways to use LLMs across the platform.
- Operations and documentation: identifying process inefficiencies, improving how data and files are organized and maintained, and documenting workflows in formats that feed future automation; and
- General analytical support: bespoke research on markets, competitors, data sources, and emerging investment opportunities across the sectors APL covers.
Qualifications
- Prospective consultants must have strong research and analytical instincts: the ability to find, organize, and clearly present information, and comfort working in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Beyond that baseline, we are looking for demonstrated ability and interest in at least one of the following two areas:
- Real Estate or Finance: coursework, prior work, or demonstrated interest in investment, asset management, financial modeling, or capital markets. Familiarity with CoStar, Argus, or other real estate data platforms is a plus but not required.
- Technology and AI: hands-on experience with one or more LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar), prompt engineering, Python, or no-code automation tools (Zapier, Make). GitHub or Cursor experience is a plus. If you have built something with AI, even a class project or personal tool, show us.
The Ideal Consultant:
The ideal consultant will combine real estate or finance knowledge with genuine AI fluency. We are open to current students, recent graduates, and career changers. Background matters less than ability and drive.
Compensation:
Hourly compensation is to be negotiated based on experience and scope of work.
