Job Description

This role supports the Securities Lending Trading team by optimizing portfolio revenue through effective trade execution, borrower engagement, and risk management while collaborating with global trading desks and operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems; analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments
- Works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
- Interface with borrowers and Northern Trust’s global securities lending trading desks to optimize revenue by effectively lending client securities in accordance with client, bank, and regulatory guidelines
- Negotiate with borrowers to price transactions based on market supply and demand factors with the ability to make prompt decisions and react to daily market changes
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with borrowers and Northern Trust partners including global trading desks, trade support, product and client servicing teams
- Monitor the trading book closely and ensure effective risk management to avoid any exposure to both Northern Trust and clients, particularly around corporate actions and liquidity management in those markets with punitive settlement regimes
- Work closely with operations teams to minimize all risk situations
- Liaise with trade support, collateral and corporate actions teams to promote efficiencies throughout the trading process
- Provide analytical support to senior traders to help maximize return from Northern Trust’s lending portfolio
- Analyze and interpret data, in order to make, support, and articulate trading decisions
- Assist the trading team in the review, integration and deployment of new and existing technology tools to further automate trading processes
- Evaluate client portfolios for the purposes of performance reviews and future revenue estimates
Skills
- 1–5 years of working experience within the financial services industry or relevant internship experience
- Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within a job discipline
- Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience
- Exchanges straightforward information, asks questions and checks for understanding
- A confident communicator, capable of influencing discussions, managing negotiations and developing borrower relationships
- The ability to quickly become proficient with new concepts and use relevant skills to enhance and improve processes
- An ability to work diligently under pressure, multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable mining, analyzing and interpreting data in order to make, support and articulate trading decisions
- Knowledge of securities lending markets and processes
