Job Description
Plenary Americas is a leading specialized developer of long-term Public-Private Partnership projects. They are seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Junior Financial Accountant to gain hands-on experience in project accounting, financial reporting, and stakeholder collaboration within a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Senior Accountants, Finance Managers, Senior Management and Asset Delivery to support financial reporting for project companies
- Be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (IFRS and GAAP)
- Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor project cash flows including preparing monthly journal entries
- Help respond to financial queries from internal and external stakeholders, with increasing exposure to key equity and business partners over time, including opportunities to eventually contribute to board-level meetings/presentations
- Assist in preparation of GST returns and other regulatory reports and returns
- Prepare and file government regulatory reports and remittances as required
- Prepare various management reports and complete project reporting obligations
- Maintain and update accounting policies, procedures and documentation
- Support process improvements and help identify opportunities to streamline workflows
- Provide support to the broader finance team on other areas as required including but not limited to ad hoc initiatives and special projects
- Exposure/involvement with financial statements is preferred but not required
Skills
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in an Accounting or Finance role (co-op experience included)
- Working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with accounting systems (experience with MS Dynamics GP is an asset)
- Interest and ability to understand legal and financial contracts/agreements
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Strong work ethic and high level of personal and professional integrity
- Exposure/involvement with financial statements is preferred but not required
- Experience in construction or project-based environments is an asset
