About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Tax Strategist / Tax Manager to serve as the technical tax expert for a growing tax advisory team. This role combines advanced tax strategy, hands-on tax review, and leadership responsibilities, including mentoring staff and improving internal processes.
This position is ideal for an experienced EA or CPA who wants meaningful, high-impact work—without the expectation of a traditional 40+ hour workweek.
- Key ResponsibilitiesTax Strategy & Technical Leadership
- Review tax returns for accuracy and strategic completeness (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065)
- Apply advanced tax planning strategies and ensure compliance with tax law
- Handle IRS calls, notices, and issue resolution on behalf of clients (EA or CPA required)
- Perform quarterly estimated tax calculations for business owners
- Conduct 1:1 tax consultations with clients as needed
- Oversee e-file readiness and final filing accuracy
- Mentor tax strategists to ensure tax plans are properly implemented
- Communicate client updates across teams to ensure alignment
- Support and mentor the tax preparation team as needed
- Participate in implementing advanced tax strategies
- Operational Leadership & Process Improvement
- Create, document, and maintain SOPs, workflows, and tax strategy procedures
- Continuously improve internal processes for efficiency and accuracy
- Collaborate with leadership to refine systems and operational processes
- Train team members on updated workflows and best practices
- Act as the bridge between strategy and operations as the department scales
- Requirements (Must-Have)
- Active CPA or EA license (required)
- Minimum 5 years of tax preparation and tax review experience
- Strong tax strategy and tax planning experience
- Leadership or management experience
- Experience with S Corporations, partnerships, and high-income individuals
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Solid understanding of IRS procedures and compliance
- Experience creating workflows, SOPs, or operational processes
- Available during standard business hours for client consultations and team support
- Available during company working hours (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST)
- Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with ProConnect, TaxDome, and ClickUp
- Experience mentoring or managing junior staff
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Process improvement or operational leadership experience

- Schedule: 32+ hours per week (based on workload and availability)
