Job Description:
SALARY: $19.70 - $24.89 / hourly
Commensurate with experience. Step Salary System to be awarded annually on the anniversary date of hire and would typically start at Step 1. Please note the salary range indicated is firm.

REPORTS TO: Head Circulation Services Librarian
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A
SCHEDULE:
This is a part-time (24 hours per week) year round position with morning, afternoon, evening and up to three out of four Saturday work assignments. The position will be subject to a six (6) month probationary work period. The position will be compensated in eight step raises (on or after the anniversary of employment).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides full range of circulation services: charges, renews, reserves, and shelves library materials; issues library cards; processes overdue notices and reports
Accepts and/or processes inter-library loan requests
Gives directional information
Assists librarian in providing reference and reader's advisory services to patrons
Assists librarian in working with community agencies and groups to extend library services to groups that are under-utilizing library resources
Assists patrons using computer resources
Prints and responds to reports from OCLN
Inputs data into the OCLN database
Participates in workshop and training opportunities
Assists patrons in using microfilm readers and copy machine
Assists in troubleshooting microfilm readers and copy machine
Answers telephone inquiries
Shelf reads collection
Substitutes in all circulation departments, including the branches, when necessary
Performs other duties as assigned by a designated library supervisor
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:
High School Diploma required; some college preferred
Basic working knowledge of computers required
Willingness and ability to learn new procedures quickly and thoroughly
Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
Ability to meet scheduling requirements of library required
Ability to relate to patrons and staff with professional friendliness, patience, tact and resourcefulness
Ability to converse in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Creole or another language spoken by one of Brockton's linguistic minority communities desirable
Ability to support and create a welcoming culture of diversity, equity and inclusion amongst diverse audiences, including department staff, elected officials, and the public
