Boxplot (boxplot.com) is seeking an experienced Data Analyst / Data Scientist to support client engagements across multiple industries. This is a hands-on consulting role. You will work on active client projects, contribute to deliverables immediately, and progressively take ownership of client communication and task management.
There will be two interviews - an initial interview, and, if qualifying, a second technical interview. Expect 30 minutes for the first interview, and 30-60 minutes for the second interview.
This position includes a probationary period.

Pay: $100,000 / year

Boxplot is a consulting firm that provides a variety of data and AI services. Many organizations are stuck with cumbersome spreadsheets or tedious processes. We help organizations use data and technology to make smarter business decisions and solve pressing problems.

Responsibilities
- Execute client project tasks involving:
- dashboard development
- SQL data extraction and transformation
- Python and Pandas analysis workflows
- Automate workflows
- Connecting to APIs
- Technical documentation
- Also:
- Develop dashboards that clearly communicate business insights, not just metrics
- Translate business questions into structured analytics tasks
- Extensively document your work. All of our projects require heavy documentation, and in the past we've had data scientists or developers who struggled with this. If you are someone that is pained by writing extensive documentation, this will not be the right fit.
- Over-communicate. For example, you will need to send a Slack message at the end of your work day every day, detailing what you did. As a remote company, this is the only way we can all know what's going on and stay on track with client deadlines.
- Manage and review work completed by 1099 contractors as needed
- Adapt to emerging tools and platforms, including AI and automation technologies (e.g., n8n)

Technical Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s in a related field; statistics or data science are preferred fields. Minimum 3 years experience; 5 years+ preferred.
- Candidates must be able to contribute immediately with minimal onboarding in the following:
- Advanced Tableau
- Advanced SQL
- Advanced Pandas
- Advanced Python
This is not an entry-level or training position. You should be fully comfortable building production-ready dashboards and analysis pipelines independently.
- It’s a plus if you have:
- Previous experience in consulting
- Experience with Power BI
- Experience with Azure, AWS, and/or Microsoft Fabric.

- Work Style Requirements
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks/projects at once. You must be able to switch gears (sometimes multiple times per day) without getting flustered. If you are someone that likes to focus on one project/task for a long period of time, this is not the right fit.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills - the ability to confidently interact with clients and others.
- Must be on camera for all Zoom calls with clients or internal meetings.
- Must be comfortable working for a small remote company. This means working independently, with significantly less interaction with coworkers than you would experience at a larger, in-person company.
- Must be willing to take a “client is always right” attitude.
- Willingness to perform repetitive, “boring”, or less desirable tasks as required.
- Must be willing to “figure things out”. We are a small team and do not have the capacity for training or providing high levels of support. Must be a self-starter who does not rely heavily on others for help with their work.
- Demonstrate patience when answering questions about your code or processes.
- Must be willing to follow our coding standards.

- You will need to change what you are working on multiple times per day. For example, start the day on Project A, then unexpectedly switch to project B in the middle of what you were doing for Project A because client B had an emergency. Then go back to project A when Project B's task is done. When both are done, complete a bit of work for Project C, and then check-in on Project D. All in one day. This is not a role for someone who wants to work on one project, or one dataset, for weeks or months. Is this type of work okay with you?
