Project Overview
Oona is a premium skincare technology company launching a product landing page. We need scientific illustrations and animations that explain biological skin aging mechanisms to a consumer audience. The visual standard is high â think journal-quality scientific figures with the polish of a premium health app.
Visual direction: Closer to Nature journal figures than infographic design. Elegant, schematic, precise. Dark backgrounds (charcoal/near-black), light linework, restrained color coding.
Style references: (we'll share screenshot examples with selected candidates)
- Scientific figures from Nature / Cell / NEJM â diagrammatic clarity, no decoration
- Apple Health app visualizations â simplified biological concepts, premium feel
- Oura Ring app â health data presented beautifully
Target audience context: Educated women, 30-45, who understand skincare but not cellular biology. The illustrations need to make complex mechanisms feel intuitive, not intimidating.
Role(s) We're Hiring
We may hire one person or two, depending on skillset:
Role A â Scientific / Medical Illustrator
- 2D diagrams and illustrations explaining biological mechanisms
- Elegant, schematic, publication-quality
- Tools: Illustrator, Figma, Procreate, or similar
Role B â Motion Designer / Animator
- Animated versions of the illustrations, plus short scientific process animations
- 2D animation â does not need to be 3D
- Tools: After Effects, Lottie/Bodymovin, or similar

P0 Assets â Required for Launch (5-7 days)
1. Collagen Tug-of-War Mechanism Diagram
The centerpiece illustration. Shows two opposing biological forces acting on collagen fibers:
- Center: Simplified collagen fiber structure (the thing being fought over)
- Left side â Tretinoin pathway: Stimulates collagen synthesis and suppresses MMP enzymes via the AP-1 pathway. Arrows pulling toward BUILD + PROTECT. Steady, controlled force.
- Right side â Inflammaging pathway: Senescent cells secrete inflammatory signals (SASP) that activate MMPs via the NF-ÎșB pathway. Arrows pulling toward DESTROY. Growing, intensifying force.
- The diagram should clearly communicate: inflammaging is gradually overwhelming what tretinoin can do alone. The forces are imbalanced.
Style: Diagrammatic, elegant. Dark background, light lines, subtle color coding (warm tones for the building side, cool/red tones for the destruction side). Labels should include both the scientific terms and plain-language descriptions.
Deliverables:
- Static version: SVG + high-res PNG (1200Ă800px minimum)
- Animated version (if you do motion): Lottie JSON or MP4, 5-10 seconds, loopable. Animation shows the inflammaging side gradually overwhelming the tretinoin side.

2. Cellular Process Animations (Ă3)
Three short animations showing biological processes. Each 5-10 seconds, loopable.
Animation A â Collagen Synthesis Stimulation
- Fibroblast cells producing collagen fibers
- Fibers weaving together, dermal structure strengthening
- Warm color palette (golds, ambers)
Animation B â Senescent Cell Clearance
- Senescent cells (enlarged, rough-edged) emitting inflammatory signals (SASP)
- Senolytic treatment arriving â senescent cells being cleared
- Inflammatory signaling diminishing, microenvironment calming
- Cool color palette (blues clearing reds)
Animation C â NAD+ / Mitochondrial Restoration
- NAD+ molecules entering depleted, sluggish cells
- Mitochondria reactivating, cells resuming normal function
- Neutral/bright palette (clean whites, subtle energy glow)
Format: Lottie JSON preferred. MP4 acceptable. Each 1200Ă800px minimum. Style: Scientific but accessible. Simplified cellular forms â recognizably biological, not photorealistic. Dark background. Closer to a premium health app than a biology textbook.
3. Three-Layer Protocol Diagram
A visual showing three biological intervention layers working as an integrated system:
- Layer 1: Collagen synthesis stimulation â tretinoin, peptides, growth factors
- Layer 2: Inflammaging suppression â senescent cell clearance, inflammatory signal reduction
- Layer 3: Cellular energy restoration â NAD+ repletion, mitochondrial support
Style: Could be a layered stack, interlocking system, or three-column architecture. Should communicate "coordinated biological system" not "list of ingredients."
Deliverables: SVG + PNG (1200Ă800px minimum)
Working Terms
Revisions: 2 rounds per asset included. Check-ins: Share WIP at 50% completion before finishing. For P0, we'd like a rough sketch/concept within 48 hours. Feedback turnaround: We'll respond within 24 hours of any delivery.
Deliverable format:
- Illustrations: SVG preferred + PNG fallback (minimum 2Ă for retina)
- Animations: Lottie JSON preferred, MP4 acceptable
- Source files: Retain and deliver (Illustrator, After Effects, etc.)
- Color space: sRGB
- Background: Dark (near-black â we'll provide exact hex at kickoff)
Timeline:
- P0 (asset 1): within 5-7 days of project start
- P1 (assets 2-3): within 8-10 days of project start
