Job Summary

The Multi-Family Property Accounting Manager oversees all financial operations for a portfolio of multi-family residential properties. This role ensures accurate reporting, compliance with accounting standards, timely financial statements, and effective coordination with property management teams. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in real estate or property management accounting. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting β€’ Oversee all accounting functions for assigned multi-family properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger oversight.

β€’ Prepare and review financial reporting: β€’ Monthly property reporting β€’ Quarterly investor and financial institution reporting β€’ Annual investor, tax, and financial institution reporting β€’ Ensure accuracy of escrow analysis, including reserves, tax and insurance escrow reconciliations. β€’ Monitor budget and cash flow reports. Team Leadership β€’ Manage and mentor property accountants; provide training and support for accounting procedures and software use. β€’ Coordinate workflow to ensure timely closings and reporting across the portfolio.

Compliance & Controls β€’ Ensure adherence to GAAP and IRS reporting standards. β€’ Report and disclose in accordance with internal accounting policies. β€’ Work closely with tax professionals, preparing documentation and facilitating the tax return processes. β€’ Implement and refine internal controls to maintain accurate, secure financial data. β€’ Review and report on debt covenant requirements and compliance. Property Operations Support β€’ Partner with property managers and regional managers to resolve accounting issues and support operational decisions.

β€’ Oversee tenant ledger accuracy, rent roll integrity, and delinquency management. β€’ Review and approve vendor contracts and invoices for accuracy and compliance. Systems & Process Improvement β€’ Utilize property management and accounting software (Yardi) to streamline processes. β€’ Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities. Qualifications β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. β€’ 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in property or real estate accounting preferred.

β€’ Prior experience managing property accountants or accounting teams strongly preferred. β€’ Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate financial reporting. β€’ Proficiency in property management accounting systems (Yardi, RealPage, etc.). β€’ Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. β€’ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines. Preferred Skills β€’ CPA or CMA certification (preferred but not required). β€’ Experience with multi-family portfolios of varying sizes and structures.

β€’ Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and reporting automation. Work Environment β€’ Full-time position with standard business hours; additional time may be required during monthly or annual closing periods, 100% remote. β€’ Collaborative environment working closely with accounting, operations, and leadership teams. Pay: $68,000.00 - $82,000.00 per year
