Pharmacy Technician Lab Instructor (Community, Institutional, & Sterile Compounding)- Online
Position Summary
The Online Pharmacy Technician Lab Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, interactive virtual laboratory instruction that supports community pharmacy operations, institutional pharmacy practice, and sterile compounding courses.
This role focuses on developing students’ hands-on competencies through live virtual demonstrations, guided simulation labs, and remote skill validation, ensuring readiness for externships and national certification (PTCB/NHA).
The instructor ensures all laboratory instruction aligns with ASHP/ACPE accreditation standards, as well as USP <797> and <800> guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Virtual Lab Instruction & Demonstration
- Conduct live, synchronous lab sessions via Zoom or LMS platforms
- Demonstrate:
- Aseptic technique and proper garbing (donning/doffing)
- Laminar airflow hood workflow (simulation-based)
- IV admixture and sterile compounding techniques
- Community and institutional pharmacy workflow processes
- Utilize virtual simulations and/or shipped lab kits to facilitate hands-on learning
- Record sessions for student review and compliance documentation
- Student Skills Development & Competency Validation
- Guide students through remote hands-on lab exercises
- Observe and assess skills via:
- Live video demonstration
- Recorded student submissions
- Evaluate competency using standardized rubrics and skill checklists
- Ensure completion of required skills check-offs for accreditation compliance
- Provide structured, timely feedback and remediation as needed
- Compliance & Accreditation Alignment
- Ensure all instruction adheres to:
- USP <797> and USP <800> standards
- Infection control and safety protocols
- ASHP/ACPE accreditation requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation of:
- Lab attendance
- Skills validation
- Student performance and remediation
- Support program documentation for accreditation reporting
- Collaboration & Program Integration
- Collaborate with didactic faculty to align lab instruction with course objectives
- Participate in:
- Faculty meetings
- Curriculum development and review
- Accreditation and compliance activities
- Assist in continuous improvement of virtual lab delivery
- Student Support & Engagement
- Provide academic and technical support for lab activities
- Maintain virtual office hours
- Prepare students for:
- Externship placement
- Certification readiness
- Real-world pharmacy workflow expectations
- Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- Active, unrestricted license to practice in the field of pharmacy (CPhT or RPh required)
- Minimum of 3 years of professional pharmacy experience, including:
- Community and/or institutional pharmacy practice
- Sterile compounding experience (hospital or cleanroom preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- USP <797> and USP <800>
- Aseptic technique and sterile product preparation
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: Up to $1,000.00 per month
